Engagement photography in the Happy Valley

Diamonds are forever

One of the reasons I love engagement photography is because the people you are photographing are always so full of excitement and happiness, and it really shows in the photos. It’s really uplifting hearing people chat excitedly about their plans for their big day and the future.

This gorgeous pair were no exception. They’ll be getting married in Ireland in the bride’s home country this summer and so were flying back and forth to book all their suppliers and sending family and friends to check out venues for them when they couldn’t make it back over.

They had been bought this photography session as an engagement gift from one of the bridesmaids.

We met at Coulsdon Common on a cold but sunny day. The tractors had been out in the fields mowing so while I knew the usual meadow grasses had long gone, I wasn’t expecting great big hay bales! They make fantastic backdrops and add a really nice touch to the wider shots of the fields. For the time of year, the sun was particularly bright, so the bales were also quite useful for some shade!

The couple got right into the spirit of the shoot straight away and came with some ideas of their own which were fun to try out. The ring, designed by them, was a stunning trio of diamonds haloed by smaller diamonds, set in gold. With a sparkler such as that it was only right that it took centre stage for some of the shots too!
