Birthday photography at Mayfield Lavender Farm

Mother and Daughter photography

Cake fixes everything...

After a week of the weather forecasting rain (and me planning umbrella and welly shots in July...), the sun changed its mind and came out in all its glory for our photo shoot at Mayfield Lavender farm last week.

This family come to the fields every year to mark their little girl's birthday with some photos of her holding a balloon for each year of her age. This year, she is three and so clutching her three balloons, we headed into the rows to find a spot clear of other visitors.

But the little'un decided she didn't want to have her photo taken, nor carry her balloons, nor play.  With a stubborn (but gorgeous) little pout she stomped about and sat down. All of which was amusing from my perspective but perhaps not so from her mum's!  Our little people have minds of their own, and if they don't want to have their piccie taken, that's ok.  Best just to ride it out and wait for the storm to pass.

The birthday girl decided that she would hold the balloons after all, but when asked by mummy to run towards the camera, she promptly ran in the opposite direction - mum's face is priceless!  Still a lovely picture I thought!

But, if it doesn't, bribery is nothing to be ashamed of! My suggestion is quite simple: cake. I love cake. Cake is my solution to many a problem.

Mum's patient attempt at placating the little one wasn't working so we took time out for a delicious carrot muffin. The affect was almost instant. Smile back in place, giggles in abundance and balloons untangled, we ran back into the rows and played (and photographed!).

It was clearly a lovely scene as some tourists watched us for a while and took more photos of her and her gorgeous mum than I did!

And looking at the photos, there are far more smiling, giggling, happy ones than stomping, pouty ones.

Slice of cake anyone?
